10 Great Video Games Whose Later Levels Are Absolute Torture

5. Super Meat Boy

Super Meat Boy is a real success for independent developers everywhere; it proves that anybody can create a game to rival the yearly AAA releases. Super Meat Boy is a platformer that gets the basics absolutely spot on. It teaches you the basics of its gameplay early on but requires you to master those techniques for the later levels. It helps too that it has some of the tightest controls in any platformer ever; it feels so incredibly responsive.

Mastering the game completely is an unstated requirement for beating Super Meat Boy though. The Light World levels grow to be pretty tough but entering the Dark World versions leads to a series of deaths and failures. Even in the former, some of the Warp Zone levels can be an incredibly tough ride on their own.

There's three levels featuring The Kid from I Wanna Be The Guy (a notoriously tough game in its own right) and completing them is one hell of an accomplishment. Godlike reflexes are required to navigate The Kid's spike filled sections in the game, and your every movement needs to be the very definition of precise.

Super Meat Boy is a fantastic game but you'd better prepare yourself for a brutal ride.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
