Trying to make an all female fighting game like Skullgirls could have been a creative hindrance at best and a gimmick at worst. Instead, Skullgirls happens to sport one of the most creatively satisfying rosters ever devised. Every character has a unique trait that is immediately identifiable, but none of them feel like a one-note design. Most importantly, the developer's desire to create a roster of original and vibrant fighters in no way hindered their ability to balance the abilities of the fighters themselves. Every character plays perfectly off of each other and whether you are a newbie or expert you'll find that all of them are competitively viable. Far more than a gimmick, the roster of Skullgirls is a testament to the creative potential of the fighting genre.
