10 Greatest Metal Gear Plot Twists

1. Turn The Game Console Off Right Now

To be quite honest, Colonel Campbell is kind of a jerk in Metal Gear Solid 2, often coming off as very stand-offish and rude during his many conversations with Raiden. His warm, almost fatherly attitude is replaced with an emotionless shell of the man, and it isn't until the closing chapters of the game that you fully understand why; the Campbell that Raiden is speaking to is just an AI construct created from Raiden's expectations. It's pretty nutty, making you go back and re-examine every little thing that Campbell says. If you dissect a lot of what he says before the reveal, you'll notice that while Kojima never goes so far to blow the secret, he does leave a lot of peculiar things for Campbell to say. This is only made even more certifiable when you realize that Rose has also been replaced with an AI, forcing Raiden and the player to question their own reality. It's also given birth to numerous memes and gags over the years, as the virus inserted into GW by Otacon's sister Emma have introduced some side effects. The AI Campbell begins breaking the fourth wall, demanding that you turn the game console off, as well as shouting a bunch of nonsense about scissors and UFO's. It all works together brilliantly with the concepts that Kojima is playing up in the finale of the game regarding questions of immortality, artificial intelligence and death. But that's not all, as there are certain to be some plot twists we've missed along Metal Gear's twenty-eight year history. Sneak into the comment section and let us know what your favorite Metal Gear twist was, and which ones we missed.
