The ending of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was shrouded in mystery for the months leading up to its release. It was a guessing game among the fans as they dissected every little clue to figure out the endgame that Kojima had in mind, ranging from Snake's apparent suicide to the riddle revolving around the Patriots. It was all leading to this, and the epilogue of the game showcased the return of a familiar face; Big Boss. Though he'd been the go-to playable character for the series since Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the character had been thought dead ever since the events of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. His return was certainly a guarded secret, and it held some pretty excellent gravitas to it thanks to a great performance from Richard Doyle. The shock was soon replaced by empathy as you watched these once mortal enemies reconcile as father and son, coming full circle from the very beginning of the series. Oh, and speaking of Big Boss...
