10 Greatest MTG One Drops Of All Time

1. Deathrite Shaman

And in first place we have the one cost creature who has been described of being a miniature planeswalker, though you don’t have to keep track of loyalty counters or this card getting directly attacked, making it even better. For only one mana, which can be either black or green – which only adds more versatility – you can set yourself up for a world of fun for you and a world of pain for your opponent.

Even against regular decks, being able to exile cards from your opponents’ graveyards to gain benefits is a nice ability, but it completely shuts down any reanimation decks, any scavenge decks, or anything which relies on graveyard presence which a decent percentage of decks do in certain formats.

This card has been banned in multiple formats and it’s understandable why, as just one card has the versatility to give you life, damage your opponent, and even to create mana of any colour, this last effect alone putting it on par with Birds of Paradise. It has no drawbacks. Even its stats are great as being a ½ rather than a 1/1 means it can defend against 1/1 tokens. For a throwback to the list, this acts a perfect counter to Goblin Lackey.

This card, if it hasn’t been already, should be banned in every conceivable format as it’s simply too powerful.
