10 Greatest Pokémon From Generations I And II

3. Arcanine

Arcanine Fire Growlithe - ARCANINE Growlithe becomes Arcanine when exposed to a Fire Stone You can hardly blame me for putting this one in right? I mean, it's Arcanine. I'd actually love to have one of these in real life, I won't lie. The first clue which tells you Arcanine is super cool is actually its original trading card - on the golden strip just underneath Arcanine's picture is the section, which tells you a Pokémon's type, length and weight. Now, on this golden strip, it states that Arcanine is a Legendary Pokémon. Now when I first figured this out, my nerdy, little 9 year old brain blew up! I was like "OMG! There's a fourth legendary dog." And I was there telling anyone who would listen about my discovery. It was fun because my friends hadn't noticed until I showed them. Obviously, we know that Arcanine is not a Legendary dog like Entei, Raikou and Suicune are but still, for the designers to state Arcanine as a Legendary Pokémon on its card means they must have held it in high esteem - just like we fans do. The second clue is its mane. Mane's are cool. So, it looks the part, sounds the part and was part of the original 150 making it a classic, but was it powerful? Damn straight. Arcanine has definitely benefited from improvements as Pokémon has gotten older and older but on Gold and Silver it was still a very good Pokémon. Arcanine learns powerful moves such as Take Down, Flamethrower and Flame Wheel. It has a good range of TM's too, with Arcanine able to learn moves like Toxic, Iron Tail and Dragonbreath. This means Arcanine is powerful against a wide range of enemies including Grass, Dragon, Rock and Steel types.
