Widely accepted as the finest in the universally acclaimed Final Fantasy series and by extension the greatest JRPG of all time, Final Fantasy VI very nearly found itself at the summit of this list. Like with all Final Fantasy titles, the sixth epic instalment contains enduring art styles, a range of diverse settings and an incredible deep storyline. In particular with Final Fantasy VI, the game contains a group of sympathetic, memorable characters who quickly earn our affections, perhaps the finest musical score of the entire franchise (in a series defined by its exquisite music) and a story which truly transcends video gaming, complete with shocking twist. Stand-out moments in this incredible title (and there are many) include the Phantom Train, the tragic Opera, the Solitary Island and the grand finale. Final Fantasy VI has always been unanimously adored by fans and critics and normally tops lists like these and its not difficult to see why after playing it. This final note of the symphony that was Final Fantastys 16-bit era truly rings the sweetest a full decade after its release.
