It is fair to say that if you were born in the 90s you probably spent a copious number of hours with your eyes fixed on the low resolution screen of a Gameboy, playing one of Nintendos insanely addictive Pokémon games. The practically-identical Pokémon Red and Blue versions were the originals and for their sheer pioneering spirit they must be considered the finest in the long-running RPG series which follows your characters quest to become the very best (like no one ever was). On that fateful morning when Prof. Oak offers you a Squirtle, Charmander or Bulbasaur the decision of which starter Pokémon to opt for can feel more serious than choosing your childs first name. You will nurture this little beginner Pokémon (it had to be Charmander every time, right?) from a weedy little thing getting bullied by Kantos Metapod population into a fighting force which can dominate the entire team of an elite gym leader. The long journey training your Pokémon and travelling across Kanto whilst attempting the arduous task of completing your Pokédex is an exceedingly satisfying one and is certainly the richest RPG experience available on a handheld console.
