10 Greatest RPGs Of All Time

With the Star Wars movies being one of the most well-recognised and successful film franchises of all time, it makes sense that it should have a successful video game franchise, too.

Unfortunately, once upon a time, LucasArts had been incredibly hit-and-miss with the video game efforts, and had yet to strike gold with their game-playing fanbase.

The result of a stroke of true genius, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was released in 2003. Set in the galaxy far, far away we know and love, the game told the story of galactic struggles that took place thousands of years before the events of the Skywalker saga.

Giving fans an insight into the history of the world they'd come to love, as well as giving themselves more creative freedom, the developers at BioWare (yes, them again) absolutely nailed the feel of the Star Wars franchise without including any existing characters from the movies.

KotOR has since become something of a how-to for RPGs based on existing franchises, and it's still enjoyed by fans over 17 years on from its release.

Not bad, considering it was almost a tie-in release for Attack of Clones.
