10 Greatest Second Levels In Video Games
1. Chemical Plant Zone - Sonic The Hedgehog 2
As undeniably iconic as the original Sonic's second level, Marble Zone, is, we just had to give the slight edge to Sonic 2's incredible Chemical Plant Zone.
The sheer sight of this zone or even just a few seconds of its brilliant music are enough to activate intense, nostalgia-soaked memories of playing it decades ago.
Aesthetically, it couldn't be much more different from the natural greenery of the game's opening level, Emerald Hill Zone.
Despite its slightly disappointing brevity, Chemical Plant Zone offers up a winning mix of breakneck, tubular traversal, and the ultimate player motivation of never having to hear that dreaded drowning music again.
If the opening level perhaps suggested Sonic 2 was going to be a little too familiar for its own good, the second dispensed with that notion immediately.
