10 Greatest Spin-Offs In Video Games
7. Resident Evil - The Chronicles Duology
From one on-rails experience to another. The Resident Evil: Chronicles games may be the tonal opposite of Pokémon Snap, but they're just as good at catering to their fan-base as Nintendo's more saccharine offering.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (UC) and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (DC) are light-gun games that take the player through whistle-stop tours of the first five entries in the franchise. Capcom bundled the two together and re-released them on the PS3 as Resident Evil Chronicles HD Collection, making one heck of a treat for fans of gaming's greatest horror franchise.
The bundle also allows players to enjoy each game on its own merits. DC is undoubtedly the superior light-gun game, being much faster-paced and more visually appealing than its predecessor, but UC is by far the more generous of the pair. As well as a ridiculous number of unlockables, the latter game provides 10 additional side missions for each of its main chapters (many of which involve fan-favourite Albert Wesker at his smug, sneering best) alongside its already lengthy story mode, each one providing new dialogue and combat scenarios separate from the main game.
It's no exaggeration to say that if Capcom ever make a third Chronicles title that marries UC's generosity of spirit with DC's refined gameplay, they'd have the greatest light-gun game ever made on their hands.
