10 Greatest Superhero Video Games Of All Time
9. Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage
Based on the comic series of the same name, Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage is a classic beat 'em up style action game that puts you in the role of the two titular characters.
Heavily influenced by Final Fight, Maximum Carnage has you running around the streets of New York, laying the SmackDown on any crook and criminal who stands in your way. On the surface, the game looks and plays like any other '90's beat 'em up, but what makes the game stand out, is your ability to choose whom you'd like to play as.
See, at certain times throughout the game, you'll be given an option, "Would you like to play this stage as Spidey, or Venom?". The game was literally allowing you to jump into the role of one of the Webhead's most iconic villains. It may not seem like a big deal in 2016, but this was huge in 1994.
It's this freedom of choice combined with excellent action and a killer difficulty that makes Maximum Carnage worthy of inclusion here.
