We're delving back in the days of gaming past with Armakuni, but he is sure to be a familiar name for any fans of the Commodore 64. The star of the Last Ninja series was everything that you would expect a true ninja to be and it is no surprise that the series was amongst the most popular games ever released on the C64.

Armakuni takes a much more reserved approach to his ninjaing that many of the others on this list. While he is more than capable of ruining his foes in combat, the bulk of his work revolves around exploring the island of Lin Fei as he searches for the nefarious Kunitoki so he can carry out that most famous of ninja tasks - assassination.

Along the way he experiences some of the most gorgeous locales ever created on the C64 - all from a wonderful isometric perspective - and must solve a number of complex puzzles to make his way through the many pitfalls presented by the island.

Armakuni was the thinking person's ninja and his popularity led to two more Last Ninja titles being made. Unfortunately, he has disappeared from the gaming landscape since 1991's Last Ninja 3, but he would surely be welcomed back with open arms should he ever put in another appearance.
