And what's more thrilling than beating the skyscraper-sized mechancial embodiment of primordial man with your best friends? (Incidentally, the fact that we can write that kind of sentence - and have it make sense - is one of the many reasons we love video games).
Persona 5 Royal's brilliantly barking true ending sees you battling Adam Kadmon in a bid to prevent a misguided mad scientist from trapping the world in an endless dream state. The initial reveal of the towering android avatar is one of the greatest "Oh Crap!" moments of the previous console generation, and the resulting battle is a rollercoaster of anime goodness.
A seemingly invincible final foe? Check.
The group's geekiest member finding a weakness to exploit? Check.
The supporting cast urging the hero an as he readies the final blow? Check.
A final one-liner from the protagonist as he finishes off the big bad? "Checkmate".
It's to the game's credit that the scene, cliched as it sounds, is actually fist-pumpingly brilliant when experienced firsthand. Developers ATLUS have been honing their craft for a long time, and Persona 5 Royal's post-final boss is a triumphant celebration of their particular brand of storytelling.
