1. Grand Theft Auto V
Yes, it's here. Whoever didn't see this coming probably has never played a GTA game; not a problem, but this game was always gonna be the top of the list. I'll be honest with this one, I wasn't actually going to put this on the list. At the time of writing, it had only been out for a day and I thought that Red Dead would make a better Rockstar entry to the list, but after playing through the game and understanding the amount of effort and finite detail that Rockstar put into GTA V, I think it deserves this spot. So, let's go through what you already know. The game is set in present times in the state of San Andreas, more specifically the city and surrounding area of Los Santos. The game, in that traditional GTA style, has you run around an open sandbox world making use of whatever vehicles you like the look of and disregarding the safety of your fellow man. In a not so traditional move, though, Rockstar added three playable characters to the list, each with their own skills, style and personality. The three of these men undertake a journey of friendship and murder which would shake the very fault line San Andreas is situated on. So, the game already had a lot of brownie points for returning to San Andreas, which was debatably the best setting of all the GTA games, and getting rid of Roman Bellic. No offense Bellic lovers, but the Eastern European charm wore short on me about five minutes into GTA IV. The amazing mass of vehicles returns to this game, with the reintroduction of planes and the introduction of blimps. Helicopters are great and all, but planes are just so much more stylish and flashy than a giant turbine on a box. The city of Los Santos really does feel alive with people, as missions are not just a case of "go to the local drug dealer and do some thug activities for petty cash." Some of them take place through random individuals that you meet. I'll stop praising the game now and let those of you who haven't played it yet go pick it up, if it's your thing. Did I miss one?
