2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Yeah, Skyrim had to be on this list. I might be giving it too much credit, but it is my favourite RPG of this generation, hands down. Skyrim was probably the most anticipated game of 2011, and I was one of the thousands of people who lined up at the midnight release, ran home and started the game, and boy I was not disappointed. Pretty much everything was vastly improved from the predecessor, Oblivion, and when the lush pine forest gave way to the rolling tundras of Skyrim, I should have known then how much of my life would be wasted on this game. The land of Skyrim was depicted beautifully in the perilous mountains, frozen landscape and vibrant forests, and the cities all felt unique, which gave them an irresistible charm. While the main story of Skyrim wasn't exactly perfect and felt a little convoluted at times, it did feel like you were the hero again, the mythical DragonBorn who would stop the dragons, as opposed to Oblivion, where you were merely the sidekick of the Emperor's heir, and watched helplessly as your friend gave his life to battle the evil of Mehrunes Dagon. Now, with it being one of the top of my list, I could probably go on for ages about the great times I've had and still have playing Skyrim, but I'll leave it here, because you all know why it's on here. A wonderful installment into a fantastic series, and here's hoping The Elder Scrolls VI is every bit as epic as this.
