6. God of War 3
An epic conclusion to the God of War trilogy. After playing through the epic tales of Kratos in God of War and God of War II, I was on edge with the cliffhanger they left us on; it was one of the greatest cliffhangers in video game history, for me anyway. As the PS3 loomed, it was most likely the promise of God of War III which ultimately allowed Sony to win my favour as a consumer. Everything was done pretty much perfectly in this game. The visceral and bloody action-packed game play I'd come to expect from the God of War franchise was still there, the story had built up enough that the final climax of the game would be explosive, and Kratos himself was at an all new level of p*ssed off. It was really the opening which first made it clear how freaking amazing God of War III really was, battling the powered up form of Poseidon on Gaia's hand while the white horses of the ocean attempted to bring down the very platform of which you stood on. It blew my mind beyond all comprehension, and disposing of the God of the oceans made the fight just as satisfying as all God of War boss battles. As the game progressed, Kratos' kill count on the Gods just kept increasing, as did his count of new weapons and powers. God of War might have toyed with the idea of other weapons, and its sequel might have gone even further, but God of War III perfected Kratos' arsenal, giving him the power to kill Gods, Titans and even the world itself. For its beautiful visceral effects, being an amazing close to a tale of revenge, and one of the only times I didn't throw my controller at the wall because of quick-time events, God of War III gets a welcome place on this list.
