10 Groundbreaking Video Games That TOTALLY Missed The Mark
4. Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor
Oh, FromSoftware. To think you could go from the critically acclaimed medieval masterpiece that is Dark Souls to...well, this.
Released in 2012, Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor is the third game in the Steel Battalion series, and the first one to be exclusive to the Xbox 360. More specifically, it uses the 360's Kinect alongside the standard controller - and therein lies the problem.
Instead of being a trailblazing new take on the Kinect's motion controls, the game is barely playable at all, due to the inconsistency of the Kinect software and its excessive implementation in the gameplay. Real-life movements are seldom recognised in-game, making for an experience that is the furthest possible thing from fun.
With its serious tone and war-torn setting, this could have been the game to elevate the Kinect to something beyond an expensive novelty. Instead, it festers in our memories as FromSoftware's one tragic misstep.
