10 Groundbreaking Video Games That TOTALLY Missed The Mark

Few games have quite as much sheer ambition as the 2008 PC game, Spore. The idea of nurturing an entirely unique species from as early as a single-celled organism was one that appealed greatly to the many gamers who awaited this title with great anticipation. Of course, when the hype monster strikes, as it has so many times before, something is always bound to go wrong.

As it turns out, the game's main pull was also the thing that let it down, in that players felt constricted by the customisation options offered when creating your creature. Another criticism was the multitude of genres that the game strays into, without really doing justice to any one of them. A classic case of a developer trying to do too much and letting its own ambition be its downfall.

That being said, Spore is still very much an enjoyable experience. Just don't go into it expecting some grand existential epiphany or anything.
