10 Hardest Alternate Endings In Video Games

You've really got to work for these extra endings.

The hallmark of any good game is being able to finish it and thinking, "Yeah, I really enjoyed that". Then, on to the next one, and the next one...

Yet there's a wealth of games that like to sneak in some different endings. Some "what if?" scenarios, or perhaps the true, canonical endings instead.

You might think, "Alright, no biggie. I'll just go back and redo the last mission or something, make a different choice". Oh were it that simple...

You see, developers want you to get the maximum amount of enjoyment out of their product. So, if it means you putting more hours in to unlock these, then so be it.

Although, maybe enjoyment isn't the right word.

Seemingly impossible speedrun conditions, weirdly convoluted fetch quests and harder difficulties are the tip of the iceberg. How about fighting an even harder version of an already nails boss? Or willingly avoiding the temptation of some sweet, sweet upgrades that'd make the game easier?

There are people who might shrug these off, just content they've finished the standard endings. But there are also those that have to scratch that itch, the need to see it all.

So, let's have a look at ten of the hardest alternate or true endings in games, that you probably gave up on already.

10. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Purification

We'll start things off with FromSoftware's beautiful yet punishing offering, which is their standard, really.

Veterans of the series will know, there's always more to a From game than just a standard ending, and Sekiro is no different. Yet there's not one, but two difficult yet rewarding endings in From's latest offering. Yay...

The first, Return, doesn't pose any insanely nasty bosses (well, no more than the main game requires), but a fetch quest. Of course, this being a FromSoftware game, a fetch quest is never simple.

But it's the Purification ending that really tests the mettle.

To get this one, you need an item from the past. Never mind that it's an absolute mission to get to the particular item-possessing boss, it's the boss itself that many hate.

Remember how difficult the Great Owl fight was about the midway point of the game?

Well, try fighting a leaner, meaner and downright quicker one in the past. Oh, that can also throw firebirds at you because why not, it's a From game.

As someone's who's got the Platinum trophy for this game I can tell you now, it wasn't easy.
