10 Hardest Mario Levels Of All Time

7. World 9-6 - Super Luigi U

New Super Luigi U was an expansion of a New Super Mario Bros. U (and eventually became a stand-alone game) where the player takes the role of everyone's second-favourite plumber, Luigi. The stages in NSLU may be shorter versions than the ones in the original game but they are much more challenging. Not only do they include far more obstacles, every non-castle level has a time-limit of 100 seconds.

Although this DLC was clearly designed for avid gamers, no stage tests your mettle more than World 9-6. Since this course has fire bars left, right, and centre, you need to constantly time your jumps to avoid being burnt to a crisp.

Now, fire bars have been a nuisance since the original Super Mario Bros. but they are, in theory, easy to pass through once you've memorised their rhythm. Annoyingly, this strategy is impossible in this level since the fire bars moves at different speeds and directions. Since you're constantly against the clock, there is little time to wait for an opportune moment to dart through these whirling flames. Even if you have maxed out with 99 lives, that's still not be enough to complete this monstrosity!
