10 Hardest Mario Levels Of All Time

6. World 9-7 - New Super Mario Bros. Wii

When you're struggling on a level, the most sensible thing to do is take your time and avoid panicking. Sadly, World 9-7 in New Super Mario Bros. Wii is designed to make the player do the exact opposite. The ground of this stage is covered in frozen blocks. If a fireball makes contact with any of these blocks, it will thaw out, releasing an invulnerable enemy called a Muncher.

Here's the problem: not only is this course infested with Fire Piranha Plants but there are over 400 Muncher blocks! Every second you hesitate will allow the Fire Piranhas to melt more ice, releasing more enemies. The only way to stop the Fire Piranhas is to kill them with a fireball.

But if you use a fireball, you risk releasing more Munchers! If you think you can simply avoid shooting your fiery projectile, a lot of sections are populated by Prickly Goombas, which can only be defeated with a fireball. And because ice is...y'know... ice, you will slip and slide down one of the level's instant-death pits over and over.
