10 Most Harrowing Decisions We Made To Progress In Video Games

7. The Suicide Mission - Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2 remains, for me at least, the Game of the Generation alongside Red Dead Redemption, for missions such as this. After spending (in my case) literal days around a whole cast of diverse and very much loveable characters, you finally embark on one last mission, pitting your entire crew against unsurmountable odds, all with the always-teetering knowledge in the back of your head that "they can't let everyone die...surely?!" Turns out they can, and they will. Bioware were absolutely ruthless portraying the final mission of ME2, and should your supplies not be in full order, or those Thanix Cannons not fitted, amongst a raft of other elements that drastically effect the outcome, literally everybody can pop their collective clogs. As well as the preparation being key, there are choices on-mission where you must choose who to pair up with and send down certain paths. Pre-scripted deaths await those who are not 'supposed' to go down these routes, yet obviously you are not fully aware of this first time through. In my personal experience, I lost the Salarian soprano himself Mordin Solus to a stray bullet, as he attempted to close a door behind us. I'm just getting over this now, as long as I don't talk about it too much....oh I'm away again. Move on, just move on.
