6. Metal Gear Solid IV Barely Makes Sense
The Awesome: The fourth Metal Gear Solid game brought Solid Snake's epic journey to a fitting end, delivering one of the most intense and downright stunning titles on the PS3. It wouldn't win the franchise many new fans, but damnit, it delivered.
The Truth: As exhilarating as the game was, did it really make a whole lot of sense? To be fair, this criticism could also be leveled at most of the other games in the franchise, but it reaches its most logic-challenging apex in the fourth game, as Hideo Kojima strives to answer every last possible question we had about the game's world and characters. The result? While thrilling, the game used magic to explain far too much (nanomachines is Kojima's version of midichlorians), and asked us to buy some down-right insane plot twists (Revolver Ocelot wasn't the douchebag villain we thought all along). That said, if you're invested into the franchise this far, you're likely to just go with it. It's one of those barmy rides you just have to accept in its insanity or leave well alone. Amazing while you're playing it, it nevertheless causes us to ask many more questions on reflection.
