10 Harsh Truths We Don't Want To Admit About Awesome Games

5. Resident Evil's Tank Controls Render It Almost Unplayable

Resident EvilThe Awesome: Essentially the game that helped popularise the survival horror genre, Resident Evil was a terrifying zombie game that then spawned a hugely successful franchise, as well as a financially successful movie series. The Truth: Back in 1996, we were so amazed by everything else that Resident Evil had to offer that we didn't care if the tank controls were utterly horrific, making maneuvering away from the various enemies a royal pain, and causing the game to be much more frustrating than it needed to be. Nowadays, following the retooling of the franchise that occurred in the fourth game, going back to the original titles is an utterly torturous experience, and the last time I tried playing the first RE, I ended up quitting after half an hour because I just found the control scheme so disruptive to the experience.
