10 Hated Video Games That Are AWESOME Now
6. EarthBound
Let's go back further, before all of this "live service" nonsense, before any internet hatred campaigns and trolling, to the simpler times of 1994.
And weirdly, to a game that in this day you can't imagine people hating, but it did happen. You read that right: the game that features Ness of Smash Bros. fame had a game that people didn't like. Shocking, but true.
That is to say, Western audiences didn't "get it", as it were. The satirical marketing campaign didn't help, with its bizarre scratch and sniff magazine adverts not winning people over. It also saw a similar fate to Yoshi's Island, being released near the end of the SNES' life, with people looking forward to newer consoles.
Strangely, it's down to Ness' inclusion into the Smash Bros. franchise that actually saw people check out his origins, with spiked a massive resurgence in Mother/EarthBound games.
Now though, EarthBound is held in high esteem. It's inclusion to the Virtual Console in 2013 has helped cement its place as a late bloomer, held in high regard alongside other great SNES adventure games of its time.
