10 Hated Video Games That Are AWESOME Now
4. Splinter Cell: Conviction
This is more a personal one for me, but I feel it's a sentiment echoed by many at the time. The reason this was hated wasn't just the prolonged build up to Conviction, it was also the massive deviation to the series that gave us Chaos Theory just one game prior.
It was the tonal shift to make Fisher a cold-blooded psycho that was disappointing, especially after years of waiting. To completely remove the stealth-aspect, in favour of a more "deadly predator" style of play was jarring, to say the least.
Yet now I look back on it, if you can separate in from canon, it's actually quite fun to let loose as a rogue Fisher. Say you don't have time to do some methodical stealthing, it's fun to pop Conviction on and mess about with the Mark and Execute system around the Washington Monument.
Were it any other game or series, it'd have been received with arms wide open. As it was from a fabled sneak 'em up lineage, it really divided a fanbase.
I mean, it didn't stop me getting all the achievements on it though...
