10 "Hated" Video Games You Should Play In 2019
1. No Man's Sky
No Man's Game. One Man's Lie. Whatever derivative derivation of the name you could think of, it was there.
To a lot of people, it was rightly deserved. Suffering a much hyped Icarus flight, Hello Games' ambitious space sim fell short of having one vital selling point to any game: having something to actually do. Like a supermodel, it was beautiful yet vacant. Even "completing" the game was an empty experience, almost a soft reset to all you've done.
But backhanded kudos to Hello; they hunkered down, took the flack and yet still supported their baby. Since the fractured launch, NMS has had many substantial (and free) updates that have fleshed out the game.
Multiplayer, team exploration, space combat and base building, as well as a sense of objective has seen it rise from empty spectacle to overflowing receptacle. At its heart, it's still style over substance, but now there's more substance to make it worth trying.
So, there we go. Just goes to show that maybe the vocal majority aren't always right, and if you're willing to dig deep enough, there's always a glimmer of hope in some games.
