10 Haunting Video Game Moments We’ll Never Forget
7. The Restroom Scene (Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy)
Ask any gamer for a list of their most memorable opening scenes and plenty will respond by talking about the first few moments of Fahrenheit, which was renamed Indigo Prophecy in the US. Quantic Dream's classic begins with one of the game's playable characters, Lucas Kane, under the influence of some kind of trance, viciously murdering a man in a diner restroom.
The game then throws the action over to the player, who is tasked with cleaning up the evidence as best they can and fleeing the scene before the cops catch wind of the crime. It's a hugely powerful opening and has gone down in the annals of video game history as a wonderful example of how to start a story with a bang.
The scene is particularly haunting as players are thrown into the action without much of a clue as to who Lucas is or why he's just killed someone. Players are posed with a moral dilemma about the rights and wrongs of cleaning and fleeing a murder scene, effectively aiding and abetting a virtual murderer.
