10 Hidden Dialogues In Video Games
1. Out Of Bounds Ending - The Stanley Parable (2013)
A game that began its life, as so many others do, as a Half-Life 2 mod eventually became The Stanley Parable, an existential walking simulator superbly narrated by British actor Kevan Brighting (I know! I thought it was Stephen Fry too!).
You, the aforementioned Stanley, walk around in search of your coworkers, and if you're the anarchic type, a desk by the window may grab your attention. This is because, with a little run up, you're able to vault up on top of the desk and hurl yourself straight out of the window into the white nothingness outside.
The only thing visible in any direction is the window you've just come from, so you may assume you'll have to quit and reload. Mr. Narrator beats you to it, however, with a hilarious Fourth-Wall-breaking speech about how Stanley thinks he's broken the game, when in fact the exploit is but an example of the developers deconstructing structural story tropes.
In mid-air, the words, "ARE YOU SICK OF THIS GAG?" will then appear, and choosing 'yes' will cause the narrator to mock you for not just pressing the Escape button.
After this, he vows to make your time "as miserable as possible" with a spoken-word song that goes on for several tongue-in-cheek verses.
As hidden dialogues go, it's hard to think of one more entertaining and well-crafted than this. The only sad thing is how many people probably missed this while playing.
