10 PS4 Hidden Gems You Must Play

5. Lords Of The Fallen

Released at the tail-end of 2014 to pretty average reviews, Lords Of The Fallen is another one of those games which people were excited about, until they eventually lost interest when realising it had tons in common with the Dark Souls games. Slow and tactical, there's a definite air of Souls-style desolation throughout - From Software's dungeon crawler has certainly influenced a lot of developers in the last few years. Deck 13 Interactive have followed suit, delivering a game during which players will be doing an awful lot of dying. It's all about learning from your mistakes, something which won't suit everybody. Let's not beat around the bush, Dark Souls is a superior game to Lords Of The Fallen, and you should probably check that one out first. Lords Of The Fallen isn't too far behind though, and it's worth a punt after you're finished there. Admittedly, the checkpoint system seems a little harsh for less-accomplished players - there are times you'll be pushed too far back, leading to much frustration. That in mind, it does force you to take more care when pushing forward, you can't afford to be reckless here, and on the positive side, the combat is a little quicker than Dark Souls. There's more of a hack n' slash element to proceedings that doesn't feel quite as weighty as the game it's inspired by, but instead keeps the pace up nicely.
