Alien: Isolation is an incredibly atmospheric game which manages to recreate the horrors of Nostromo by using a smart and adaptive AI that stalks you around the ship, just like the original Xenomorph.

The mechanics that turn the alien into a real apex predator are fascinating on their own, but there's an interesting hidden feature that makes the game even more special.

On the console version, Alien: Isolation connects with your system's microphone to enable the alien's sound detection. If the creepy extraterrestrial monster causes you to jump and scream in real life, Isolation picks that up and gives away your position. This was a brilliant idea that makes every encounter with the alien feel more immersive and suspenseful, and the fact that it is not mentioned only adds to a terrifying element of surprise.

Thankfully - especially to address the privacy-element-elephant in the room - sound detection can be turned off in the game's options, but if you're not afraid that your cat or dog will drop something and accidentally bring about your doom, it is well-worth keeping on, as it makes for a unique horror experience.
