How can a game with a made up language that let's you drown family members in a pool, or put babies in a BBQ possibly be so successful?

It turns out that there might just be a little bit of a psychopath in us all.

The Sims has kept teenagers and adults alike entertained for two decades now, releasing four main games alongside a myriad of spin-offs and expansion packs across most platforms, becoming the premier simulation game of, well... life!

Will Wright and EA Games have given people the chance to live out a different existence to their own, and it's resulted in over 200 million copies sold.

People can't get enough of living a virtual life of their own choosing.

It's comfortably become, and remained, the most successful PC franchise of all time thanks to the aforementioned four main title contributions.

It's a franchise that keeps on giving. It's how it was set up. Just look at The Sims 4, the last of the major titles, which was released in 2014.

In the five years since, there have been eight expansion packs and 15 stuff packs for that instalment alone.

It's a gaming concept that allows for continual additions and adjustments without having to actually invest in a new title.
