10 Hilarious Game Overs You WANT To See

Greeting the Grim Reaper with a smile on your face.

Dont shit yourself

Death as a concept is no laughing matter. Death as a video game concept, on the other hand, can be morbidly hilarious.

Whether it's mowing through countless unnamed goons in the likes of Dynasty Warriors, or sending out our horrible (and yet somehow adorable) minions to slaughter in Overlord, death it seems is baked directly into the gaming experience. On a design level, it's the simplest way to present the idea of victory to a player outside of a high points score, that you have beaten that enemy and they are no more.

Still, the tables can always turn, and in many video games you might find yourselves on the receiving end of a brutal beatdown and leading to a game over. Again it's a perfect way to express failure and of mistakes made by the player.

However not all these deaths are gruesome fatalities or bleak expressions of not being up to par, as some video game developers clearly want to break the ice a bit and so programmed in a tonne of weird, whacky, and wonderful ways to greet The Grim Reaper with a big dumb smile on your face.

10. Spider Man 3 - QTE Failiure

Dont shit yourself
Activision

I bet a lot of people were expecting to see this entry on the list, and you know what? it's with good reason as the Spider-Man 3 movie tie in game genuinely does offer up a game over so utterly unexpected that it's hard not to burst out laughing.

As Spider-Man enters one of the likely many collapsing and exploding buildings he's seen in his time and starts to do his friendly neighborhood thing, the player is given some simple QTE's to complete to help him on his way. As we leap from floor to ceiling and over burning obstacles it seems like it's just another day in the office for Spidey, especially when we spot a rather bug-eyed civilian tied up and next to a bomb.

Not a problem, we'll just swing over and...huh. Seemed to have missed the button there, and oh my lord what is going on? Here if you fail, Spider-Man will flop to the floor with a ridiculous splat, before the woman states "I'm going to die" before the building explodes.

Nothing about a person being burned and then dying from an explosion should be funny. Yet here? It's bloody hilarious.
