10 Hilariously Bad Super Mario Rip-Offs

4. Syobon Action

While most of the games on this list are clones, Syobon Action is more of a parody of Super Mario Bros., and everything about this game screams parody of the 2D platforming genre. This is one of those games that looks just like what it's ripping off, but in a way that's creative and hilarious.

In Syobon Action, the player takes control of a tiny kitten that looks like Toro Inoue, the Sony Cat created by the company for marketing purposes. The levels look much like Super Mario Bros., and they don't differ in appearance from one another, but that's not what makes this game interesting.

Everything about Syobon Action is all about killing the player. Step on the wrong brick, and fall to your death. Even the flagpole can kill the player in multiple ways. Choosing the wrong coin block can lead to sudden death, and even the background scenery is deadly.

The game gets a lot of heat for being too difficult with its trial and error gameplay, but that only makes it more challenging and fun/frustrating to play. The game was released as freeware on Windows in 2010, and it's still available for download on Sourceforge.
