10 Horrifying Video Game Moments YOU Are Responsible For

1. Undertale's Unique EXP

Undertale is an indie game that sees the player take control of a child who is attempting to make their way back to earth after falling into the Underground, meeting various monsters on their journey back to normality.

The even game offers the player to complete the entire adventure as a pixelated quaker, avoiding killing any of the monsters they come across and even rewards the player with a special ending if they do so.

So far so good.

So what makes Undertale, a seemingly pretty innocuous game, worthy of a place on this list?

Because on the other side of the spectrum to the route of well-natured pacifism, the player can also embark on something of a genocidal journey as they make their way through the game, killing just about everything they come in contact with.

Perhaps the most horrifying realisation incorporated into the game is that of EXP. With gamers generally conditioned into collecting EXP as experience points, Undertale flips that on its head by revealing out that EXP is an entirely distinct stat referring instead to execution points, subconciously guiding the player away from pacifistic route. Sans explains this concept to the player:

The more you kill, the easier it becomes to distance yourself. The more you distance yourself, the less you will hurt. The more easily you can bring yourself to hurt others.
