10 Horrifying Video Game Moments YOU Are Responsible For
2. Vault 34: Fallout New Vegas
What makes the moral quandaries in the Fallout franchise so good, is that the player cannot just simply decide to complete the good or bad option in line with their characters inclinations, and instead has to wade through murky waters in dilemmas that feature multiple shades of grey.
In the Fallout universe, few quests embody this concept quite as well as that of Vault 34 in Fallout New Vegas.
As longtime fans of the series will know, the Vaults ostensibly intended to continue human civilisation after a nuclear war were actually little more than human science experiments carried out by Vault-Tec.
Vault 34 is no different, and by the time The Courier arrives much of the vault is completely irradiated and infested with feral ghouls.
The Courier is tasked with shutting down 34's reactor in order to benefit NCR crops that have been failing due to the radiation emitting from the vault.
However, upon reaching the terminal the player finds out that some vault inhabitants are still alive further into the structure, and turning off the reactor will certainly kill them.
This leaves the player having to decide between the needs of the many and the few in a video game version of the Trolley Problem, with suffering guaranteed regardless of what path is taken.
