10 Horror Franchises That Should Be Turned Into Video Games

8. The Toxic Avenger

A 1984 horror comedy directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman, The Toxic Avenger is essentially a superhero film, infamous for its depictions of gruesome violence. Distributed by Troma Entertainment, the film follows protagonist Melvin Ferd (played by Mark Torgl), a janitor at a local health club, who after falling into vat of toxic waste is transformed physically into a hideous looking monster, soon dubbed The Toxic Avenger.

The Game: Imagine a hack ‘n’ slash, in which players take on the role of The Toxic Avenger, delivering sweet justice with his signature mop, brutally murdering criminals in comically exaggerated fashion, and earning points at the end of each level depending on how creatively the enemies were decapitated, mutilated or otherwise incinerated.

In the films, Toxie murders his foes in some pretty spectacular ways; he even turns one guy into an icecream before drilling into his brain with an automatic drill, so there’s plenty of horrific, gory material for the game to play around with.

Ideally, The Toxic Avenger would aim to recapture the tone and feel of the movies, giving players as much freedom as physically possible, and as many different tools as necessary to really create a sense of limitless possibility.

The crux of the game wouldn’t be about murdering punks, but murdering them in the funniest, most delightful ways imaginable.
