10 Horror Video Game Sequels BETTER Than The Original
1. Silent Hill 2
The first Silent Hill game was a title that Konami didn't expect or even particularly want to succeed. It was created by a rag-tag group of developers who were considered to be underperformers and meant to be a simple Resident Evil clone.
Still, everything changed after the first Silent Hill released. It became a barnstorm hit, and people eagerly awaited a follow-up.
Silent Hill 2 deserves so much credit for being a risky venture that would define the franchise. It didn't act as a continuation of the previous game. Instead, it carved out a new path and told the story of James Sunderland, an incredibly complex character who arrived in the titular town after receiving a letter from his dead wife.
This title wasn't just a creepy as all hell horror game, as it was also a profound character study, which delved into the concept of guilt, remorse and trauma. These heavy subjects made it one of the most moving and surreal experiences you could have with a controller.
While many missed the grungy and gory imagery of the first game, the dreamlike atmosphere, cold setting and powerful story made up for it. Plus, there was still a whole load of body horror, and even the introduction of the franchise's most iconic character, Pyramid Head.
