10 Horror Video Game Sequels BETTER Than The Original

9. The Evil Within 2

The Evil Within 2

The first Evil Within game was a perfectly harmless (or armless if you played your cards wrong) title that got audiences everywhere feeling nervous, but it wasn't a ground breaker.

It did well enough to garner a sequel, and this instalment managed to capture all the elements that made the first game so exciting but switched it up enough to keep the series moving forward.

In both titles, you take on the role of Sebastian Castellanos, a Detective who enters into terrifying situations and ends up transported to a world full of vile monsters and gruesome imagery. The second game sees this character hit rock bottom but finding a chance for redemption when he's given an opportunity to save his daughter.

Each chapter in The Evil Within received negative responses to the characters and story. This is understandable, as the narrative was somewhat convoluted, and the characters - particularly the lead - were very unremarkable.

Evil Within 2 doesn't fully improve on this, but what it does excel in is a new and more streamlined experience, as the survival horror elements are stronger, thanks to the non-linear pacing. The new open-world makes the feeling of isolation more prominent, as you are left to your own devices far more than in the first.
