10 Horror Video Game Sequels BETTER Than The Original

8. Outlast 2

The Evil Within 2
Red Barrels

The first Outlast game took the internet by storm after it became a primetime player in the world of online playthroughs. Scores of YouTubers, Twitch streamers and viewers became obsessed with the chaotic and pulse-pounding title.

While the hospital setting and frequent jump scares certainly had players feeling spooked, the sequel changed this up with a compelling narrative, more powerful graphics and a far more terrifying atmosphere.

Outlast II took place in a desolate village populated by a collection of deranged cultists. These frightening antagonists are convinced that the apocalypse is coming, giving the title a tonne of stakes and adding some stronger supernatural elements.

While many people may prefer the more claustrophobic setting and scare frequency of Outlast, it is still fair to state that thanks to its unique pacing, more inventive narrative and a heavier emphasis on variety, the second does things the original doesn't. It didn't soar to the same popularity as its predecessor, but many believe it's a more potent - and scarier - outing.

It's is an entirely different experience to its original, so your preference can go either way. Still, Red Barrels certainly created one hell of a sequel here.
