10 Horror Video Games That Desperately Need Sequels
10. The Suffering
Existing on its face as a 'shock-horror' title, Midway's Suffering series was actually a supremely tight third-person shooter, with a slowly unravelling story that expertly propelled you from one scene to the next thanks to some satisfying gunplay. Playing as death row inmate Torque, the wing of the prison you're holed up in is suddenly beseeched by some truly brilliantly-designed demons - each one being modelled on a different method of execution. It opens with the question of whether or not Torque is actually guilty of butchering his wife and two kids, and depending on various choices throughout that colour his mentality, you'll get a few different cutscenes in the end. Along the way you'll tackle any number of these horrifically disfigured demons and other enemies, whilst occasionally helping other inmates escape the ensuing chaos, but it was with the inclusion of a rage mode-style creature form that really let you turn the tides on the larger numbers of monsters. It would see a sequel in the relatively unknown Ties That Bind, but since then with Midway becoming NetherRealm studios they've been far more focussed on the Mortal Kombat series to put another one of these out, despite how many remember it very fondly.
