10 Horror Video Games Where YOU Were The True Evil

4. The Silent Hill Franchise

One of the most defining features of the Silent Hill franchise aside from some utterly brilliant enemy designs, is that each entry in the series focuses on a protagonist with a troubled past. In fact thanks to the evil that radiates from Silent Hill, it's actually these mental insecurities or repressed emotions that allow these horrifying events to take place.

Of course, there's much more to the series than this, including cults that try and resurrect a deity simply known as God and usher in a new apocalypse or age of paradise depending on who you're talking to, however, there is still the constant factor that you're never playing as a character who is wholly innocent.

And to further prove this, each game offers multiple endings, with the worst or "bad" endings usually revealing something truly horrific about our protagonists. Travis from Silent Hill: Origins is revealed to be a serial killer, Alex Shephard can become a monster himself by not accepting his past, and of course with James Sunderland, we get the horrifying knowledge that he killed his own wife giving birth to his demons, including the franchise all-star, Pyramid Head.
