10 Hotly Anticipated Open-World Games Coming In 2016

3. Mass Effect: Andromeda (PC, PS4, XBO)

It may seem a bit anti-climactic to talk about a space-faring game that won't offer nearly the same level of scale as the previous entry on this list, but Mass Effect is one of the few games whose name is capable of standing up to just about anything out there when it comes to generating seismic waves of hype. Last time we visited the Mass Effect universe, it's fair to say that things were left on a bleak note, but on the bright side that's given Bioware the chance to start over. Andromeda takes place in a whole new galaxy, which is expected to be far more seamless than those of its predecessors (the least you'd expect with the generational jump, really). We don't yet know just how open Andromeda will be, and Bioware will need to find the right balance between keeping up the series' traditionally concise story and excellent pacing with the sense of freedom that people look for in a modern RPG. With early shots of the game focusing on vast desert landscapes and riding around in a Mako buggy, it looks like EA are keen to portray Andromeda as the most open Mass Effect yet. While Mass Effect's galaxy probably won't be the biggest open-world game, it's likely to be a cornucopia of excellent writing, fantastic lore and engaging characters to meet, adventure with, then at the end of it all jump into bed with.
