2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The only reason Batman didn't make it higher on the list is because it's pretty much a dead cert how his game is going to play, whereas titles like The Witcher 3 or the upcoming number one slot have plenty more to offer in the unexpected stakes. The Witcher is one of those series' that almost everyone's heard about through a friend or acquaintance. They'll rarely mention it in anything less than eye-widening exclamations of it being "The Best Thing EVER" but that rarely transfers into you actually giving it a go. Well, Wild Hunt is going to change all that, as this time developer CD Projekt RED have the collective might of both Sony and Microsoft powering the advertising behind their game. Main character Geralt has always been an RPG creation for the ages, and the world he inhabits is far more mature and weighty than the vast majority of other role-playing titles, leading to this being the perfect title for an ageing gaming population that want something appropriately gritty to get stuck into. If you've been on the fence about the franchise in the past but have been waiting for the right time to dive in, go pick up Witcher 2 for now and get preparing for what's being touted as an adventure the likes of Skyrim-sized proportions.
