Earlier this year Ubisoft shocked the world by announcing that their annual-since-2009 franchise Assassin’s Creed would be skipping 2016 in order to give the series a bit of a rest.

However, while many people assumed this just meant that the developers were taking a year off and coming back next fall with something new, it would probably be in the best interest for Ubisoft to go back to the drawing board completely if they really want to impress players.

The last we heard on the future of the franchise was that a new Assassin’s Creed game set in Egypt was already in development before the decision to take a year off came in. However, if this sequel was already cooking on the annual cycle when the release date was pushed it means there’s a good chance the game is still going to suffer from many of the same problems that plagued the latest releases.

Instead of polishing what they already had, there’s a good chance Ubisoft could be starting over on this Egyptian idea, radically shaking up the series’ signature gameplay to create something truly refreshing that will finally put Assassin’s Creed back on the map.
