10 Huge 2016 Video Game Rumours You're Not Supposed To Know

5. Nintendo's New NX Console Getting Released

Personally, I'm not a huge Nintendo guy (90s me swore by Sega and later PlayStation), but the prospect of them releasing a dedicated games console that can focus on innovation and development over worrying about processor specs and frame rates sounds like just what we need. By all accounts the Wii did revolutionise the industry and expand its reach exponentially, but as far as the public's concerned, the Wii U never even existed. Their Gamecube amassed a nice diehard following beforehand, throwing out a handful of impeccable games like Super Mario Sunshine and Eternal Darkness, but ultimately it got trampled underfoot by the monstrous PS2 and curiosity around Microsoft's first Xbox. Likelihood? 4/10 For the NX, Nintendo has the perfect time to strike. Sony and Microsoft have their own little private war going on, and coming off the back of what went wrong with the 'innovate-'til-it-died' Wii U hardware, they can double down on nostalgia-factor, tap into the love for things like the N64, Gamecube's lost potential - even Ocarina of Time-scale games that defined thousands of childhoods. The reality is their newest Zelda is coming out on the Wii U, so even though they're discussing NX plans, releasing anything promoting the next step hardware-wise would kinda cripple the PR buzz around 2016's reimagining of Link and company. Who knows though? Nintendo are never ones to play by anyone's rules but their own.
