10 Huge Gaming Controversies That Rocked Sony PlayStation
9. The Killzone 2 "It's Real Gameplay" Lie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcyzpQ3JpU4 Thought CG game trailers had hit a high-point of frequency in recent years? It was nothing compared to the past in terms of pure misdirection, as when it came time for the Japanese giants to show off 'what the PS3 could do', they needed something anybody within eyeshot would be completely blown away by. But what did that amount to? Out-and-out faking a trailer to look as though it was in-game, even though Guerilla Games' functioning build of Killzone 2 looked nowhere near as capable or fluid in reality. Skeptics justifiably had their day in the sun trying to tell everyone they never believed a second from the start, but the dreamers and fans amongst Sony's reach of millions actively wanted to get on board with the next generation - and why wouldn't they? The PS2 was more popular than jam on toast. Still, when Sony had to admit the whole thing was a sham in the following weeks it burnt their entry to the next-gen so much, you could easily argue it's the very reason the 360 walked away with it afterwards.
