Why It Could Release In 2022

Remember Skull & Bones? Ubisoft's pirate-themed action-adventure game was released during the company's E3 2017 presser with an original target release date of Q3/Q4 2018.

That obviously didn't come to pass, and while for a time some grew to suspect the game had become vaporware, there are two factors indicating that it's actually set to release soon.

For starters, Ubisoft announced a new beta sign-up back in March, which could very well mean that a beta will kick off during Summer Games Fest ahead of a retail release later in the year.

Furthermore, in a recent financial report the publisher stated their desire to get the game out before the end of the fiscal year on March 31, 2023. While that obviously means it could land early next year, if a beta test is imminent then it's likely that Skull & Bones is close to the end of its development.

Why It Might Not

Skull & Bones has been one of Ubisoft's most troubled projects in recent years, so having any rigid expectations about when we might get to play it is a bit of a mug's game.

Beyond the numerous release days and a fascinating report from Kotaku about its hellish development, the game missing 2022 wouldn't surprise anyone that's paying attention.
