3. No Subtitles For Cutscenes - Spyro Reignited Trilogy

Perhaps the most vital "accessibility feature" of all is the inclusion of subtitles, especially for cutscenes, ensuring that all players will be able to make sense of what's going on.

Much like the ability to pause cutscenes, subtitles are something which most players take for granted, and so there was a significant uproar when it was revealed that the recent Spyro Reignited Trilogy launched without subtitles for all of its cutscenes.

Things got worse when Activision quickly responded to criticism by claiming that there was "no industry standard for subtitles," rather than simply apologising and getting to work on patching in some subs.

The trilogy did finally end up with the expected subtitles, but it wasn't until four months after release, an undeniably indecent wait for any hard-of-hearing players who purchased the game on day one.

For a game backed by a corporate behemoth like Activision not to launch with subtitles isn't just embarrassing - it's insulting. In 2020, the major publishers should really make subtitles a mandatory part of their internal certification process.
